Cloth, G. 320pp+16pp publishers adverts, folding colour frontis, a poor copy of the second issue of one of the seminal novels of the Victorian era. Hinges weak front & rear, large repaired tear to the map, spine wrinkled & bubbled as if from having been wet at some time, sporadic foxing. An early issue of the first edition - Title page dated 1885, adverts at rear dated 5.G10.8 and 5B.10.85. The typographical errors are all corrected. Hardback , no dustjacket. ¶ Immensely popular tale of African Adventure which was written by Haggard as a bet with his brother. The book was the first work of fiction set in Africa & one of the earliest 'Lost World' adventures, spawning a whole sub genre of adventure literature.
