First edition, complete in four hardback volumes. 8vo (21cm by 14cm), 500pp; 516pp; 464pp; 449pp, 11pp index. 39 engraved plates (correct as per list), but lacks the folding map which is called for in volume 3. Later brown cloth, title labels to the spines with gilt titling, top edges gilt. Light rubbing of the bindings, occasional light foxing of the contents, staining to the frontispiece of volume 1. Overall, this set is in good plus condition. An uncommon history. Upcott p635.
