Sebastiani, Bishop of Hierapolis and Apostolic Commissary of Serra, was sent on missions to India to try to reunite the warring factions in Malabar. The journey passed through Aleppo, Ninive, Basra and Goa before reaching Cochin (Kochi). During this time he witnessed the fall of Cochin in 1661 and Cranganore (Kodungallur) in 1663 to the Dutch.
