Francis Hare [ 1671 - 1740 ] was a Fellow at Christ Church, Cambridge at the time the sermon was delivered. In 1708 he graduated as a Doctor of Divinity. He was, through connections made at Cambridge to become chaplain-general to Marlborough's army in 1704 and eventually the Bishop of Chichester.
