Poor a noted railroad journalist & economist, who wrote much on the economic & social phenomena of the railroad [as well as the displaced canals]. The first edition of this popular 'Manual' appeared in 1868; it continued in publication until 1924. The 'Cost, Earnings' data, which was presented in the Manual through the 1900 edition, "remain among the most valuable source materials on railroad expansion and development." ever published. [DAB].
