At the time of his sudden death he was engaged in work on hysteria, convulsive attacks in hysterical patients, and hypnotic therapy. Indeed Charcot must be considered one of the first to demonstrate the clear and fruitful relationship between psychology and physiology (his work on hysteria stimulated Freud's investigations) as well as, with Duchenne, one of the fathers of modern neurology.': DSB V, 171 - 181: (Freud): Grinstein, 320: Includes [321], being 'Sur un cas de coxalgie...', translated as 'Über einen Fall von hysterischer Coxalgie aus traumatischer Ursache bei einem Manne'.: Norman Coll. Vol. I, F152: 'Charcot was an influential figure in Freud's intellectual development. Freud studied with Charcot at the Salpétrière from October 1885 until March 1886, and developed a lasting admiration for Charcot's mastery of neurology, his brilliance as a teacher, and his pioneering studies of hysteria and hypnosis. While still in Paris, Freud offered to translate the third volume of Charcot's 'Leçons sur les maladies du système nerveux', which had not yet been published. He performed his task so rapidly that his German translation, to which he added a preface and footnotes, was published several months before the original French version, which appeared in 1887.': Jones I, 228 - 230: Heirs of Hippocrates 1030: 'It was as a student of Charcot that Freud first became interested in investigating hysteria from a psychological standpoint.': Sigmund Freud Exhibition cat.
