Oscar Wilde. - For the Love of the King A Burmese Masque by Oscar Wilde.

 1564552558,
London, Methuen 1922. Octavo, very good in publisher's white gilt cloth (a bit tanned). Edition of 1000 copies on handmade paper. ¶ First edition of the Chan Toon fake. I've forgotten who 'Mrs Chan Toon' actually was but from this distance it's hard to see how E.V. Lucas, or anyone, actually took her or the crude forgeries at face value, though Wilde himself gave her his imprimatur from beyond the grave in his 'Psychic Messages from Oscar Wilde' recorded by Hester Travers Smith in 1924. Wilde bibliographer Christopher Millard (aka Stuart Mason) was successfully sued by Methuen for suggesting that Methuen had foisted this stuff on an unsuspecting public, with Lucas, Methuen's chairman, still (in 1926) insisting from the box that he thought it genuine if inferior Wilde.
