SPOORWEGEN-PREHISTORIE. (SOETENS, Cornelis) - Asphalt-sporen door geheel Nederland, in verband met de eerste sluiting der geldleening ten behoeve van het asphalt-spoor tusschen Amsterdam en Haarlem.

Amsterdam, P.M. van Cleef jr., [1847]. Cloth-backed ex-library binding. Upper and lower original cover bound in, with a picture of the asphalt track coach on the lower side. 48 p. 1st edition. 19th- and 20th-century library stamps (among others 'Governor of South Holland’). “Asphalt tracks throughout the Netherlands, in connection with the first closing of a loan on behalf of the asphalt track between Amsterdam and Haarlem.” A variant of the horse-drawn tram. Circumstantial, passionate plea for this alternative of the railways: "It is now loudly acknowledged by anyone unprejudiced, that Iron Tracks are not suitable for the Netherlands, and the regions where Iron Tracks are being placed, do not enjoy advantages, while existing highroads with their previously flourishing towns, villages and hamlets, are doomed to total decline hamlets by the system of monopoly and isolation." The author of this pamphlet, Cornelis Soetens, advocates a railway consisting of two asphalt tracks, five feet wide, ridden by a carriage pulled by horses, with three classes. This self-invented variation of the horsecar was planned between the "cradle of Laurens Koster” (Haarlem) and the Dam in Amsterdam. Unfortunately for Soetens and his financiers nothing came of it.

Books are in good antiquarian condition, unless described otherwise. Serious defects are stated, minor defects not always. All prices are in Euro, tax included, but without postage, packing and bank charges which are at buyer's expense. Shipping of books after receipt of payment. Books may be returned within 7 working days (prior notification welcome). A full refund can be expected if the books do not match the description stated. Otherwise, only the price of the books (excluding shipping costs) will be refunded.
Orders from the Netherlands and other Euro-countries preferably paid by bank transfer.
We also accept VISA, Mastercard/Eurocard and Paypal. Cheques cost extra.

Onze boeken verkeren in goede antiquarische staat, tenzij anders beschreven. Kleine onvolkomenheden zijn niet altijd vermeld. Prijzen zijn in Euro, inclusief BTW (niet apart vermeld, omdat we deelnemen aan de Margeregeling voor antiquaren) en exclusief portokosten.
Een bestelling per e-mail wordt altijd met een e-mail beantwoord.
Bestellingen uit Nederland en België worden doorgaans met een rekening verstuurd; we behouden ons echter het recht voor betaling vooraf te verlangen.
We behouden ons het recht voor de goederen te verzekeren en/of aangetekend te verzenden. De kosten daarvan worden veelal doorberekend aan de koper.
Boeken blijven eigendom van de verkoper tot de volle prijs is betaald. Retourzendingen binnen 14 dagen na ontvangst (waarbij voorafgaande kennisgeving op prijs wordt gesteld). In dat geval volgt restitutie van de prijs van het boek (exclusief portokosten). Alleen als de beschrijving foutief was, worden ook de portokosten gerestitueerd. Retourzendingen dienen de verkoper te bereiken in dezelfde staat als waarin ze aan de koper verzonden werden. Het risico van retourzendingen is voor de afzender!
