HARBAUGH, T.C. (1849-1924) - Autograph Note Signed

 1554311860,
Prolific dime novelist, often of lurid tales with a Texas setting; titles include "The Snow Trail; or, The Boy Hunters of Fur-Land" and "Dandy Jack; or, The Outlaw of the Oregon Trail." ANS (pencil), 1p, heavy stock 5½" X 3¼" postal card, n.p. n.y. [postal cancellation Casstown, Ohio, 1922 February 25]. Addressed to Will J. Benner of Hollywood. Very good. Brief, bizarre note concerning fellow dime novelist "Oil" or "Oll" Coomes (1858-1920): "Consult some cyclopedia or / undertaker. / T.C. Harbaugh / Oll Coomes was Killed last / summer." Coomes was one of the best known of the Texas dime novelists, and was killed in a car crash in Iowa in 1920. Interesting, snide and rather morbid! Accompanied by a 3" X 5½" printed pink promotional 4-page leaflet for Harbaugh's 1907 book, "Lyrics of the Gray." Fine. Features blurbs by Mrs. J.E.B. Stuart, LaSalle Corbell (Mrs. General) Pickett, General Stephen D. Lee and others. .
