First published in 1801, this is the first of the 19th century evidence treatises, influential upon Bentham (whose 'Rationale' was published in 1827) and commended by him, elsewhere described as "embodying considerable original thought and research, and . long in high repute". Spine faded, professional repairs to spine and gutters, former owner's signature (W. Starr Whiton) and date (1896) on ffep, some pages mildly sunned, otherwise unmarked, tight, and square.
