The herpetofauna of the continental offshore islands of South Africa and Namibia is reviewed. Historical and recent records are discussed and the origin and affinities of tthe herpetofauna are considered. A total of 23 species has been recorded from 11 islands. The greatest diversity (16 species) occurs on the largest island, Robben Island in Table Bay. The commonest island species are Phyllodactylus porphyreus (7 islands) and Cordylus cordylus (4 islands). All of the islands have rocky coastlines and are unsuitable for nesting sea turtles.
