De Chateauroux found herself instantly dismissed when Louis XV thought that he had fallen seriously ill and would soon have to respond for his behaviour at the heavenly court. When he recovered she was re-installed, however, she died herself, to be soon replaced in the king’s attention by Mme. De Pompadour. Her correspondence gives insight in the way policy was made at the French court in the 18th century.
