Hardcover. xxviii, 495pp. Contemporary full calf, spine and edges decorated in gold, leather label lettered in gold, marbled pastedowns, edges sprinkled in red. Engraved title, title vignette, thirty engraved plates (mostly of coins and medallions), three engraved foldout plates, several engravings in the text, vignettes, initials and tail-pieces. Engravings by Pietro Sante Bartoli, Francesco Andreoni and others. In this work, Buonarroti describes the numismatic collection of Cardinal Gaspare Carpegna, for whom he worked as a museum and library curator. Gamba describes this as a "stimatissima opera, e una delle migliori che s'abbiano in questo genere." (Highly esteemed work, and one of the best in its genre). Several tiny worm holes to the spine panel, label partially missing (but there is a new green calf label laid in), rubbing to extremities, minor worm holes to endpapers and flyleaf.
