Vindobonae [Vienna], Carol Gerold, 1842-1843. Two volumes in two. 8vo (17.2 x 10.4 cm). 1038 pp. [iv, 492; 542]. Sympathetic early 20th century uniform dark blue half linen over marbled boards. Spines with gilt title. Marbled endpapers. Speckled edges. Original printed wrappers bound in. = A seldom seen but important catalogue of the plants in the famous Botanical Garden in Vienna, listing original descriptions, synonyms, varieties, origin and occurrence, etc. A total of 8186 taxa are listed. The author, the Austrian polymath Stephan Ladislaus Endlicher (1804-1849) was director of the Garden from 1840 until his early death. Mild damp staining on the front wrappers and gutters of first few leaves - quickly diminishing - of both volumes, very light foxing to a few index pages; otherwise a very good, clean and unmarked set.
