"The movement today known as Feral Art, which consists of two generations -- the founders and those who came after, began as a response to the atrocities of World War II. Picasso, who remained in Paris during the German occupation, decided not to exhibit during the war. He retreated to his studio, where he not only continued to paint, producing works such as the Still Life with Guitar (1942) and The Charnel House (1944-48), but also apparently began a short-lived career as the head of a clandestine studio dedicated to avant-garde art.
