An overview of the Catholic Church's practice of banning, under pain of excommunication, books that challenged Catholic traditions and values. The Church stopped updating its Forbidden Books Index or "Index Librorum Prohibitorum" in 1966. The author of this pamphlet was a former Franciscan priest who left the Church and became a vocal member of the anti-authoritarian Freethought movement. He was included among the thinkers G.K. Chesterton opposed in his book "Heretics. Very Good .
