Mann, Sally - Second Sight : The Photographs of Sally Mann

Boston, MA, D.R. Godine, 1983. Softcover. Glued wraps with monochrome illustration on cover. xii. (2) 3-59 pp. chiefly b+w illustrations. "Sally Mann is a photographer for whom no aspect of the medium is without its possibilities. She is as natural in the act of pictorial framing, lens to lens, as she is at home in the darkroom. Though she has mastered much of photography's technical repertoire, she is as fascinated by ordinary black-and-white contact printing as she is by platinum or color processes. If there is such a thing as a born photographer, Sally is it. Can an artist be somehow innately equipped, even destined, to grasp the moral and aesthetic potentialities of this medium? Perhaps we cannot know whether this capacity is inborn; but at the very least, we know that having an ingrained connection through early exposure to this odd picture-making apparatus assists in the development of a genuine camera artist. Fair, laminate peeling in a few areas, previous owner labels .
