Lamendola, Lauren M. - Woven Into History : The Foster and Muriel Mccarl Coverlet Gallery at Saint Vincent College

Latrobe, PA, Saint Vincent College, 2008. Softcover. Glued wraps with color illustrations. (4) 5-76 pp. featuring many color illustrations. When the late Foster McCarl viewd an American coverlet, he saw a piece of history that told a story. From the time that he and his wife, Muriel, first began collecting antiques to furnish the colonial-style house that they had built in Chippewa Township, Beaver County, the search for historic artifacts would continue to be a life-long passion. Their first woven coverlet was purchased in the summer of 1959, quickly followed by purchases of others, and thus started what grew to become the premier collection of antique American coverlets, produced by weavers in the 19th-century.
