. Pp. xvi, 228. Modern cloth. First edition. Armin Vâmbéry (1832-1913) was born as Hermann Vamberger of poor Orthodox parents on the island of Schütt in Hungary. Already at a young age he mastered several European languages and he then turned to Arabic, Turkish and Persian. He travelled extensively in Central Asia and became professor of oriental languages at the University of Budapest from 1865 to 1905. Zaunmüller p. 390.
