LIE, Trygve (1896-1968) - Signature / Unsigned Photograph

 1554311284,
Norwegian diplomat who served as the first secretary general of the United Nations (1946-53). Nice bold "Trygve Lie / Oslo 8/29.1966" in blue ballpoint on a 3½" X 4" yellow notepad slip bearing a printed "Note from / TRYGVE LIE" at upper left. Near fine. Accompanied by a choice vintage original glossy 8½" X 6½" news agency photograph (International News Photo). Fine. Dated 27 February 1947, this superb half-length shot depicts Lie shaking hands with George C. Marshall. The original mimeographed caption sheet (printed on cheap acidic newsprint, thus often absent) is present and in very good condition. Captioned "U.N. Secretary-General Call on Secretary Marshall," the text reads in part: "Trygve Lie, right, Secretary-General of the United Nations, today paid a formal courtesy call on Secretary of State George C. Marshall, left. It was the first time the two men had met.." Itself a scarce and desireable image. A great signature example and superb quite collectable image. .
