It provides an account of the rise of the Caliphate followed by a fascinating account of town life and the Omayyad court at Damascus. VG-, minor chaffing to leather extremities indicating wear, but very sold overall. Each title-page has two circular ink stamps, the larger being from the K.u.K. Oest. - Ung. Consulat in Baghdad. These ink stamps are crossed out with a simple inked X, and there is a waxed pencil notation on each title-page as well. No other ownership marks in the books. Bookseller's stamp on rear endpapers from Louis Marchanbd of Paris with a stylized cat sitting on a book .
