White paper onlay, printed in red, to front cover, advising patrons "Do Not Use this Directory until 4 A. M. November 12th". xii, [8], 284 pp. 3 inserted leaves, unpaginated, of advertising material (blue, pink & peach in color). 8vo. 9" x 6". Well worn, with lower corners lacking from rear cover & last leaf [advert, no text missing]. Old tape repair to front cover. "Chinese Section" written in ballpoint under cover title. PO red check marks throughout. Age-toning to paper. A Good copy only. In this directory, the 'Chinese Exchange' occupies pp v - x, with an additional 8 pp in Chinese prior to the main section of the directory, which demonstrates the growing influence of the burgeoning SF Chinese community. A useful primary information resource from early 20th C. California, and one, at best, infrequently offered given its scarcity. Just ask yourself- "Who saves Telephone Books?" especially when PTT instructed its clients to "Destroy Previous Issues" [see the recto of the rear wrapper] and if saved, "How many survived the Fire in 1906?" Few indeed, one suspects.
