DICKSON, Frederick S. - Blackwood's" History of the United States

Philadelphia, George H. Buchanan and Company, 1896. Paperback. 8vo. Stiff green wrappers. 27pp. Very good. Minor soiling. First edition. Across the top of the front cover Dickson inscribes this copy to Samuel W. Pennypacker (1843-1916), the historian and Pennsylvania governor. Interesting criticism of an attitude, prevalent in certain British publications at the time, that the British felt kindly toward Americans while Yanks displayed only hostility toward the British. To refute this, Dickson quotes numerous derogatory comments that appeared in Blackwood's Magazine during the Civil War and The Spectator in the 1890s. Daniel Fish states that 1300 copies of this pamphlet were printed. FISH 266. .
