N.F. Simpson - The Hole and Other Short Plays And SketchesFaber and Faber 1964 Hardback, 154pp. N.F. Simpson was a leading figure of the short-lived English Absurdist school, a school quickly swallowed up by the 60s Cambridge satirists who were hot on its tail. If Simpson is remembered at all now it's for A Resounding Tinkle (included in this collection) and first performed at London's Royal Court Theatre in 1957. Simpson's surreal sketches were a profound influence on the early career of Peter Cook, who appeared in many of them in West End revues. Simpson developed a long and close association with the Royal Court: much of his work was staged there, and in 1976 he became the theatre's Literary Manager. Fair.
