 1540424411,
Baltimore, St. Joseph's Seminary, 1929. Hardcover. Original typed carbon copy of a manuscript PhD. dissertation submitted to St. Joseph's Seminary of Baltimore in 1929.  370p, bound in a black cloth folder. Library shelf number on spine but no other ex-libris markings. This is a 370-page typed manuscript of the author's doctoral dissertation from 1929. It must have been well-received as it was published in book form the following year and reprinted in 1968. The full title continues: "being An Investigation of the Past and Present Activities of the Catholic Church in Behalf of the 12,000,000 Negroes in the United States with an Examination of the Difficulties which affect the work of the Colored Missions" Although forgotten by many today, the Catholic Church was a leading exponent of African-American civil rights at a time when some Protestant churches (such as the Southern Baptist Convention) were actively opposing civil rights. .
