Contemporary quarter calf on marbled paper boards, flat spine stamped in gilt, lightly rubbed, top of spine with small nick. Some minor staining. André du Ryer, a noted orientalist who served in the consulate in Alexandria in the 1620s and later as an interpreter to the French ambassador in Istanbul. He made this well-known translation of the Qur'an which was first published in 1647. A handsome copy. Cf Zenker BO i, 1390 (no this ed.).
