It's a translation of parts of the Li Ki (Book of Rites), which is one of the Five Chinese Classics and consists of texts on Chinese religious practices from the 8th to the 5th century B.C. The text contains a wealth of information about the Chinese culture from ancient time. Including descriptions of clothing, astronomy, economics, geography, history, music, crime, funerary rites, horticulture, etc. Calleri (1810-76) moved to Macau in 1836 where he studied Chinese under the renowned sinologist Joachim Alfonso Gonçalves.
