Second edition of a missionary work largely based on the work of Antoine du Montyon's work published in 1811 under the title "Exposé statistique du Tunkin, de la Cochinchine, ... sur la relation de M. La Bissachère". La Bissachère (1764-1830) was a French missionary who arrived in Tonkin in 1790 where he stayed for 17 years. He was very successful in his missionary work and converted many inhabitants. He travelled extensively in the area. This work contains accurate and interesting information dealing with geography, geology, zoology, commerce, navigation, commerce, politics, military forces, religion, customs and manners, etc. Cordier BI 997.
