An early Turkish attempt to explain the causes of things to be admired in the civilization of Europe. Diplomat Mustafa Sámi travelled extensively within Europe and participated as a member of a Turkish legation to Paris in 1838. Upon his return he wrote this work about people, lifestyle, science, climate, education etc. in Europe. He felt that the advanced state of Europe stemmed from its excellence in science.
