It was not anticipated to sell well, but became so popular it was reprinted many times, and Martineau was contracted to write monthly stories for the series. Harriet Martineau was a British author, whose work reflected a variety of topics prevalent in society at that time. She was also noted for being a staunch abolitionist. GOOD condition. Heavy uneven fading and discoloration to the covers, with some spotting, staining and soiling. Extremities bumped, scuffed and a bit worn. Moderate scattered foxing in the interior. Good .
