BOLLANSéE, MARIE JULIA - Marie Julia Bollansée : Geology Archive

Gent, S.M.A.K. 2021, Exhibition Catalog. Soft Cover. Artists' Book, As New. Text: EN/FR/NL.157 p.; ill.; 21 x 27 cm; 380 g. 'Performance artist Marie Julia Bollansée (°1960, Pulderbos, Belgium) starts the series with the work 'Geology'. In her artistic practice, Bollansée pays particular attention to the age-old powers of the body and the chemistry that arises when people interact with each other. At 'Geology' she invited travelers to choose a stone at the place they had chosen as their final destination. She asked them to deliver the stone to her, take a photo of the exact location where they found it, and add text about their journey. The artist processed the archive of stones, photos and stories into the book 'Geology Archive'. With the stones from all over the world, the artist performs slow, ritual performances and creates compositions on a bright blue tarpaulin. This universally recognizable industrial sail in 'tarpaulin blue' is a constant in the work of Marie Julia Bollansée. It represents both the vulnerability and the strength of the person in need.'
