The book presents the history of Singapore from 1941 to 1984 with each picture having a short accompanying. The narrative preceding the pictures in each chapter describes the main events and explains why things happened the way they did. Where no photographs were available to illustrate an event, newspaper clippings have been used. A brief introduction sketches developments from 1819 onwards that are relevant to understanding the history. The book was prepared by Information Officers of the Ministry of Culture.
