Hailed as a milestone in the American underground or countercultural press of the mid-20th century, the Realist's first issue came out in the Spring of 1958 and was edited by writer, satirist, and a member of Ken Kesey's Merry Pranksters Paul Krassner (1932 - 2019). Contributors in this issue included Charles Allen and Alan Whitney with articles on legal and actual concentration camps in America, as well as "Editorial Giggies" on the sex life of J. Edgar Hoover and so on. Good .
