The Borden's Condensed Milk Company was founded by Gail Borden Jr. in 1857 as the Gail Borden Jr. and Company, primarily manufacturing condensed milk, which would bring Borden great prosperity during the Civil War, when the milk was sold to the Union Army. Borden would also pioneer the use of glass milk bottles in 1885. The current booklet, published as an advertisement for the company's products featured numerous recipes for vegetable meals, fritters, chicken and beef dishes, etc. made with Borden's Milk.
