Zorman, Ivan - Pesmi (Songs)

Cleveland, By the author, 1922. First Edition. First edition; 7 1/4 x 5 1/4; pp. [4], 5-105, [7]; red cloth over boards; gilt title to front board; minor rubbing to corners and tips of spine; occasional, very minor smudging to pages; in very good or better condition. In Slovene and English. Ivan Zorman (1889 - 1957) was a Slovene-American poet, composer, educator, activist, and translator. Emigrating with his family to the US at the age of 4, he briefly went back to Slovenia in 1898 and attended elementary school in Velesovo, before returning to Cleveland and studying modern languages, history, and music. One of the first Slovene Expressionist poets, his debut book of poetry (Poezije), released in 1919, would be the very first Slovene verse collection published in the US. In his second, bilingual one, the current "Songs," along with his own poems in Slovene, he would translate for the first time ever several Slovene poets into English, including Preseren, Jenko, Levstik, and others. Very good .
