Goldie, V. - The Declension of Henry D'AlbiacNew York, Frederick A. Stokes Company, 1913. First American edition; 7 3/4 x 5; pp. [7], 2-312, [2]; embossed, textured red cloth over boards; title in gilt; minor rubbed spots to tips of spine and corners; mild foxing, mostly to fore-edge; in very good condition. Not much is known about Valentine Francis Taubman Goldie (1875 - ?), but for the fact that he was the son of Sir George Dashwood Taubman Goldie (1846 - 1925) - a Manx administrator, who was credited with co-founding Algeria. Valentine published two poetry collections and nine novels (dubbed "syrupy" by some). His current work told the story of a rich and idle young man, engaged to an equally idle and wealthy lady, who fell under the spell of an older, eccentric, vegetarian, suffragist widow. Very good .
