Mikhail Dmitrievich Karateev was a Russian historian and author. He served in the White Movement and, forced to flee after the Revolution, he immigrated to Turkey, then Bulgaria, Belgium, and eventually Uruguay. He was a master of historical fiction and wrote numerous books, including the current one on Tamerlane (1336 – 1405), aka Iron Hromets, who was one of the greatest Turko-Mongol rulers of his time - born in present day Uzbekistan, conquerer of West, South and Central Asia, and founder the Timurid dynasty.
