Numerose illustrazioni in b/n e a colori nel testo, alcune su pagine ripiegate, fra cui spiccano i ei disegni delle uniformi dell'esercito francese nella Campagna d'Italia del 1859. Riedizione critica dell'operetta del 1862 "Un souvenir de Solférino", in cui il Dunant mostrò la disumana ferocia della guerra ed espresse gli ideali umanitari da cui nacque la Croce Rossa.
