One of the earliest editions to use black & white photographs rather than just silhouettes this is a 506 page outline of the strength of the world's navies at the outbreak of the First World War with plans and photographs of hundreds of warships. Also contains 110 pp of splendid contemporary advertisements of such items as naval armaments armour etc. and a chapter on marine engineering. Some annotations in ink. Size 32 cm by 19.5 cm in original stiff boards with spine relaid. Good condition. Endpapers grubby and repaired and corners of boards scuffed. Image available.
