Jacques Marchant was a Roman Catholic theologian from Namur (Belgium). He was a typical representative of the Roman Catholic popular spiritual tradition early 17th century in the Low Countries, when books like this with lives of saints, sermons and devotional treatises where considered of special importance for religious education and also served as model books for parish priests (Cf. Hoppenbrouwers, oefening in volmaaktheid, p. 47). The first edition was published in 1637. Shelf mark on first free endpaper; vellum somewhat wrinkled and loosening from boards at front edges.
