First edition of Cartoons: The Second Childhood of John Bull by Max Beerbohm in the original publisher's quarter cloth binding and paper wrapped boards. Illustrated with fifteen colour lithographs accompanied by text. Collated, complete. These illustrations were first drawn in 1901. Includes titles such as 'I'm going to see this through' and 'Lest We Forget Ourselves&apos. Max Beerbohm was an English caricaturist and parodist. This is his fourth collection of cartoons. Undated, dated from Jisc. In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding with paper wrapped boards. Externally, sound. There is bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. There is wear to the cloth on the spine and some slight loss to the bottom right edge of the front board. Collated, complete.Max Beerbohm was an English caricaturist and humourist whose cartoons were iconic of their time; usually drawn in pen or pencil with muted watercolour tinting. His work first began to gain popularity after appearing in the first edition of 'The Yellow Book&apos. He was famously inept at drawing hands and feet, which were often avoided in his art.This was Beerbohm's fourth collection of cartoons, published in 1911.With the armorial bookplate of Edward Keppel Stephenson to the front pastedown. Stephenson was an English first-class cricketer and member of the Coldstream Guard during the First World War. In the original quarter cloth binding. Externally rather worn; wear to the extremities and the spine, which has loss exposing the binding. Ownership bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, binding is loosening throughout.
